I have been working on the battle for affordable health coverage for all for the longest time, and some people actually view me an authority in this area. I have worked with the employed, unemployed, and retired on getting affordable medical coverage, so let me tell you how things stand in the fight. Most people probably already have an idea that it can be very hard to find access to low priced health coverage. Unless your employer covers you, or you are a civil servant, you will probobly be overpaying for your health care coverage, and possibly alot more than you would think. For this reason, many people across the state and across the country are trapped in dead end jobs in the hopes of keeping their affordable medical coverage. Although they are not doing satisfying work, or advancing their careers, they have to stay with the same old gig because, if they do not, they will lose their health insurance and be in real trouble.

Among the people without low priced medical coverage are many children in this country. Let us face it, despite being the very richest country in the world, we have failed many of our citizens, even children, in not providing them with the access to affordable health coverage which is certainly, quite literally, a matter of life and death to multiple. Without affordable health insurance and good nutrition, masses of of the poorest are chronically sick and struggling with their medical expenses, unable to pay which it is that they owe, and so always under the crushing weight of poverty.

Although there are plenty reformists who are actually industry flunkies claiming that all is very possibly needed is most definately a little reform to insure affordable medical insurance, anyone who has been on the front lines like I have been will tell you the bare truth. As a nation, we just can not go without having single payer health care coverage any more. I’m thinking about changing my major to health because I enjoy science and nutrition, but I’m not sure what good jobs are out there for a health/nutrition major. If anyone has a webcite or advice it would be much appreciated:)

Really, the only job you will have as a Nutritionist is serving, and over-viewing foods for hospital patients. Making sure they eat the right amount, and the food is good for their body type. For example: if a elderly patient gets high blood pressure every now and then, you would make a serving of food to accommodate that person.

But to tell you the truth sweetheart, Nutritionist don’t get paid very well. They average salary for a Nutritionist is between $20,000-$40,000 a year. We will say your salary is in the middle and you make $30,000 a year. You would only be making $2,500 a month, and with taxes, you would probably only have $1,600, plus the cost of your monthly bills. So really, only about $800 to $600 left over. So you wouldn’t have a very great life. You likely wont even be able to pay for a apartment and you will live in your parents house, and you would likely have a crappy car.

If i was you, i would seriously consider making a career change. My mom went to school for 5 years, and she is now a Registered Nurse. She makes $106,000 a year, or about $8,000 a month. $14,000 if she works over-time. So that is always a option.

When the topic of women’s health care is raised, the first disease that comes to mind is probably breast cancer. But surprisingly, that’s not the number one health care issue confronting women today. In fact, heart disease kills more women each year than all forms of cancer combined. By knowing the most significant risks in women’s health care and what you can do to combat these health care issues, women of all ages can take a proactive approach to leading healthier lives.

The #1 Women’s Health Care Issue: Heart Disease More than 489,000 American women lose their lives each year as a result of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular diseases. In fact, more women than men die from heart disease each year. Until recently, little research focused on women and heart disease, but the good news is that’s no longer the case. From research into the effects of hormone replacement therapy on heart health to studies of how cholesterol-lowering medications work in women, there’s an unprecedented increase in the amount of information available to women working to live with and ward off heart disease.

Experts at the Mayo Clinic offer simple common sense advice to women (and men) in the fight against heart disease: don’t smoke, eat a diet low in fat and rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products, exercise at least 30 to 60 minutes a week, and maintain a healthy weight.

In addition, they encourage women to see their family doctor each year for a physical which includes blood pressure and cholesterol screenings. Studies indicate that there is a 46% increase in stroke risk for women for each 7.5 mm HG increase in their diastolic blood pressure, so monitoring blood pressure and controlling hypertension are vital.

Women who suffer migraines, are pregnant, have atrial fibrillation and those with the auto-immune disease Lupus also appear to run a greater stroke risk. Diabetes is another women’s health care issue with a direct impact on heart health. The American Heart Association notes women with diabetes have a two to six times greater risk of heart disease and heart attack and are at a significantly greater risk of suffering a stroke. Unfortunately, there are few definitive screening tests that detect this disease, but experts advise a thorough annual gynecological exam and for women to be alert to pelvic pain and pressure, low back discomfort, mild nausea, and an increase in constipation or gas. A serum CA-125 blood test can detect certain forms of ovarian cancer, but the test is not accurate enough to be used as a routine screening tool.

The rate of women suffering from cervical cancer has dropped a great deal over the years, thanks in part to the increase in the number of women who get an annual Pap smear which can indicate the presence of abnormal cells on the cervix. It’s a strong argument for making sure you never skip your Pap smear. Women who have had Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs), herpes simplex virus, those with suppressed immune systems, and those who have had multiple sexual partners run a greater risk of cervical cancer. On the prevention front, a recent trial of a vaccine against cervical cancer was 100% effective in the short term at blocking the disease.

Psychological Well-being: A Growing Health Care Issue for Women In the field of women’s health care, psychological problems, which include eating disorders, depression, and anxiety disorders, affect millions of American women. From coping skills to medications to alternative and complementary medical approaches, there is a growing body of knowledge being brought to bear on this important health care issue.

More than 19 million people in the United States, the greatest percentage being women, live with anxiety disorders that disrupt their lives. The different types of disorders within this group include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias. Treatment options include talk therapy and a wide range of medications that can quell the symptoms of the condition. Many women also combine alternative approaches to treatment such as acupuncture, meditation, and diet modification with traditional forms of treatment.

Though many of the women who struggle with eating disorders are in their teens and twenties, these conditions also affect women at other stages in their lives. We have reached a stage in our development as human beings that we need to make some important decisions regarding our health and well-being. Maybe it is time that we take some of the focus on this constant development of technology and focus on our very own health.

Almost all of the activity in daily life has been removed, we have to do absolutely nothing to collect food, keep warm and have shelter. Our enemies are ones we have created ourselves such as cars on the roads and our chronic worldwide serious health problems that are on the verge on becoming epidemic.

It is a fact that one out of every two people on this planet has a chronic disease or illness and many have multiple conditions. Two thirds of us are overweight or obese and others feel lousy, are tired, worn out and are mistaking living for merely existing.

Is the connection not apparent between these two factors – lack of activity and chronic disease? How could such an intelligent collection of people allow this to happen?

Is our financially driven “sickness system” behind this, is it that lots of sick people are needed to keep feeding this money sucking monster? This system has nothing to do with health and everything to do with sickness. A sickness-based system does not provide or promote health, statistics show the health of the global population has steadily declined since World War II.

The fitness/exercise industry is being flooded with sick, desperate people looking for solutions. Whose job is it to help people stay well? Incredibly powerful money motivated forces are preventing people from taking control of their own health by withholding the information and solutions to keep people healthy.

Who allows the pretty boxes of so called food in the supermarkets full of dirt cheap ingredients that offer little or nothing in the way of nutrition? This is actually encouraging people to gain weight and become unhealthier. These forces that control our food sources and “health” care are so powerful that nothing short of a revolution will be able to stop them and that is what must happen.

A much greater awareness must be created in each of us that recognize the importance of the environment, the quality of our food, and the quality of our health. This new way is called wellness and can be defined as living to the best of ones potential and is more than the absence of disease.

It involves taking personal responsibility for one’s health, taking positive steps to avoid disease and living a lifestyle that promotes health, strength, fitness, vigor, and energy. Wellness means practicing self care by the use of proper strength building exercise, eating well and taking care of your top life priorities, your health. Rather than living your life slowly going downhill, losing strength and energy until sickness finally catches up with you.

The emerging wellness industry is as much a reaction to the dictatorship of the sickness and the food industries as it is to every person’s desire for the freedom, good health and longevity that wellness can offer.
