How do I get my daschund to gain weight?
I have a 2 year old dachshund from a family that could not care for him anymore and he is very skinny. He will not gain weight. I have had him for about 6 Months now. He also will each so much that he will throw up! HE LOVES FOOD! I think he would eat himself if he could! He is so skinny that you can see his hip bones and ribs. He has been to the vet about 4 -5 times (My girlfriend is a vet Tech) so this rules out worms and intestinal disease. He has had fecal exams etc… He has been checked for everything and the vet said he is just naturally skinny and he is 100% healthy. He is VERY active and playful. I just want him to pack on a few pounds so people will stop staring…. Is there any food that will help this? I want to know the best. What ingredients should I look out for/ give him for better nutrition for gaining weight? I am currently feeding him eukanuba high performance and he loves it! Any help would be great!Just a little bit of new information today for all those internet marketers looking for the best new up and coming release for 2010. Feed him thick vet advised dog food. You could feed him people food just until he is bigger.

Try a different brand of food.

my dog needed to gain to.
While you are trying to get him to gain weight, be very careful! Daschund’s are prone to back problems and this chance increases if the dog gets overweight. So just be sure the dog doesnt gain too much. Puppy food has more fat and protein than adult dog food. Usually you want to avoid giving adult dogs puppy food because it will cause them to gain weight. YOu may want to start mixing some puppy chow with his regular food to put on some pounds, but discontinue when he gets to his ideal weight! Good Luck!

If he’s otherwise healthy, don’t worry. Quite often dogs like this will put on weight as they mature.
