Jane Jakubczak, Coordinator for Nutrition Service at University of Maryland advises athletes on eating healthy. “”Fast food has actually come along way, 10 years ago it was very difficult, and you kind of just threw your hands up when you had to go eat fast food. It really is a fact of life for athletes on the road. The good thing is that a lot of the food places have healthy options, now what it takes is that willpower to kind of override the need to go for the french fries, and go for something that has less amount of fat.”"

James Blake, an American tennis player ranked 8th in the world, talks about eating healthy for athletes. “”The biggest difference in my diet since I?ve become a pro tennis player is how much I eat. I need to eat so many calories because I?m burning so many on the court. I need to keep forcing food in and keep the weight down because if I didn?t eat, you know, thousands and thousands of calories everyday, I would just start losing weight from all that I burn while I?m on the court, while I?m in the gym, and so I need to kinda keep replenishing that, which means a lot of protein shakes, a lot of Gatorade, a lot of just replacing everything you have in you, and I try to eat as healthy as I can, but in the effort of just getting calories sometimes, there?s a little bit of junk food that sneaks in there. I eat pizza probably a little too much, but other than that, I don?t really like fast food, like the McDonald?s, Burger King, or any of those kind of things. When I first started playing, I didn?t have a trainer and a nutritionist that traveled with me or anything and I just wasn?t getting enough food. A couple of times, I just felt depleted when I was done with a match and it showed in my body and in how well I was able to cope at the end of long matches especially in the heat. And now, I feel like that?s a problem that?s been solved.”"

Athlete nutrition expert Leslie Bonci discusses diets for high school and college athletes. “”I think the most important thing for wrestlers to do during the holiday time is to first of all, that same routine being established, because typically, a season is starting before the holidays begin, so you say, okay, I know I need to eat pre and post-practice. I know I need to eat something within an hour of waking up and two other times during the day. Even over the holidays, that is still possible. So perhaps, instead of eating the whole turkey and the whole bowl of stuffing, maybe we?re dividing that out into five meals. We?re just trying to be consistent, remembering that even if the body is not as physically active around the holidays, it still needs to be hydrated. So the importance of getting the liquid in, and for a wrestler who might be trying really, really hard to keep weight and maintain weight, maybe it?s the tradeoff, and you say I really wanna have a piece of Mom?s pumpkin pie and maybe if I?m gonna have that pie, I?m willing to have a smaller scoop of mashed potatoes, so at the end of the day, the body is still in balance.”"
